About the ASSIST Covid-19 Resource Platform
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world to a standstill – overwhelming health systems, crippling economies, and disrupting daily life.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) is a highly contagious infectious disease that attacks the respiratory system. There is currently no specific treatment for COVID-19, prompting governments to implement tough social distancing policies and lockdowns to curb the spread. However, the consequences of the pandemic and the necessary containment measures have reached beyond public health and devastated financial markets, international supply chains, various industries, down to the level of households.
In Southeast Asia, a region characterized by limited healthcare capacities, dense national populations and interdependence among states, comprehensive multi-stakeholder efforts are needed to protect lives and livelihoods. The Philippines is currently one of the countries within the region most at-risk of the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19.
A global health crisis urgently calls for a coordinated and informed global response. Every day, we are bombarded with new information on the current situation and new terminologies like social distancing and flattening the curve. Given the stakes, there is a greater need to ensure this information is communicated correctly and accurately.
The ASSIST COVID-19 resource platform provides context, preventive measures, and key resources on COVID-19 that can help reduce its unprecedented impact through reliable, verified information.
In line with its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to its target sectors, ASSIST is one with the international community in the fight against COVID-19.
