Sector:Energy and Natural Resources
SDGs: Clean Water and Sanitation, Responsible Consumption and Production, Life Below Water
Country/Region: Phillipines

The Need

The “Clean Ports, Clean Oceans” project aims to reduce the flow of plastic waste entering nature and the ocean. Its goals include (1) working towards a 50% reduction of plastic waste in at least 3 Philippine ports, (2) providing input to the national action plan on port waste management to highlight the importance of the port industry in addressing plastic pollution, and (3) documenting the project to enable scaling up in other Philippine and global ports.

Intervention

The project has implemented circular solutions with relevant port stakeholders including the Philippine Ports Authority and Maritime Industry Authority to reduce port- and ship-generated wastes.
