Digital Storytelling for Climate Action: Highlighting the Gendered and Rural Impacts of Climate Change

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Traditional climate communication often emphasizes technical data, overlooking the lived experiences of communities most affected by climate change. This initiative sought to make climate action more relatable by highlighting the gendered and rural impacts across four GIZ projects: HMCCC, E2RB, TRANSfer III, and ProCoast.

OUR INTERVENTION

ASSIST translated technical knowledge into engaging digital narratives, producing videos, a graphic novel, a one-page scrollytelling site, and webinars. We scoped audience needs, designed storyboards, and developed content that amplified community voices while conveying key climate and sustainability messages.

OUR IMPACT

The digital outputs made complex climate topics understandable and relatable. Participants reported that the storytelling approach helped them connect with local experiences, deepened their understanding of gendered and rural impacts, and inspired dialogue and action on sustainability.
