Sector:Energy and Natural Resources
SDGs: Affordable and Clean Energy, Climate Action, Partnerships for the Goals
Country/Region: Philippines

The Need

The Philippines launched the Renewable Energy (RE) law in the form of RA 9513 by the end of 2008. To mark its 10th anniversary, the Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) planned to release a report that highlights its accomplishments, gaps, challenges, and ways forward to support the growth of the RE industry in the country. Also, DOE aimed to make this report knowledge management and advocacy material in aid of policy review and institution building with regards to induce financial investments in the field. The activity was conceived and implemented as part of the DREAMS project of UNDP.

Intervention

ASSIST was the chosen partner to publish this report and the endeavor involved (i) research of the selected target audience, developments in the RE field, challenges faced by the various stakeholders, the positive impact of the policy, and finally solutions to look forward to; (ii) crafting a report that is a reasonable mix of creative and technical writing; (iii) creative direction of the design and layout of the report so it becomes a communication product that achieves the ultimate objective of the project – inspire, educate and serve as a credible knowledge base.

Our Output/Impact

As part of the project, ASSIST produced a coffee table book that was widely acclaimed and appreciated. The knowledge product involved significant inputs and advice from the various district officers and staff at the DOE, support from the head of the unit, and DREAMS project team members.
